Mission
The Washington Community Theatre, Inc. is a non-sectarian, non-profit organization based in Washington County, Pennsylvania dedicated to the purpose of stimulating and maintaining local interest and participation in the theatre arts. Its mission is dedicated to providing the opportunity for members of the community to participate in all aspects of theatre and to presenting quality theatrical entertainment to our audiences. Our philosophy is as follows:
We strive to involve community members in all aspects of theatre. We offer the chance to newcomers to learn new skills and test their wings. We encourage individuals to share their best talents with others onstage and off. We aim to provide our audience a quality performance suitable for families to enjoy. We are a company of volunteer thespians. We recognize the demands placed on them and respect the time they have to offer.
Programs and Services
- Washington Community Theatre, Inc. (aka Washington County Community Theatre, WCT, and WCT, Inc) has provided theater productions for Washington County since 1967, the last 50 years of which included summer productions at the Rotary International Pavilion in Washington Park. This theater organization is all-inclusive by engaging the Washington County community members from as early as preschool aged children to senior citizens in their ninth decade of life.
- At its greatest capacity, our organization has been able to produce up to four shows per year: A Fall production (musical or play), a Spring production (a stage play or fundraiser cabaret), a Summer production (usually a large scale musical), and a Children’s Theater production (either a musical or play that is acted solely by children or a multi-week children’s workshop culminating with a final presentation).
- Being involved in WCT, whether on stage or behind the scenes, offers a plethora of benefits. First, participating in productions fosters a sense of belonging and camaraderie within the community. On stage, individuals can develop their confidence, public speaking skills, and ability to perform under pressure, all of which are valuable in various aspects of life. Backstage roles, such as set design, lighting, or costume creation, provide opportunities for creativity and problem-solving. Moreover, working together towards a common goal cultivates teamwork and cooperation among our Washington community members. Participating in WCT also allows individuals to explore their passions, develop new talents, and expand their social network. Additionally, being part of productions can be a form of stress relief and a way to escape from the pressures of everyday life. Finally, WCT often serves as a platform for personal growth and self-expression, empowering individuals to embrace their unique abilities and contribute positively to our Washington County community's cultural enrichment.
