Mission

Operation and maintenance of a public library for the residents of the Borough of Canonsburg, Township of Cecil, and Township of North Strabane.

Programs and Services

  • Frank Sarris Public Library (FSPL) serves the Borough of Canonsburg, North Strabane Township, and Cecil Township, as well as the nine schools that make up the Canon-McMillan School District. We are also part of the WAGGIN library system, including all Washington, Fayette, and Greene County public libraries.
  • Essential Services – The Frank Sarris Public Library provides bestselling and popular books, DVDs, audiobooks (Books on CD and Playaways), Launchpads, video games, manga, comics, graphic novels, magazines/periodicals, museum passes, Young Explorers Kits, and Wonderbooks are accessible to all with a WAGGIN library card. Patrons can also request items available outside of the WAGGIN library system through interlibrary loan (ILL). We also offer printing, faxing, copying, and scanning services. Our historical collection includes books about the history of the Borough of Canonsburg, North Strabane Township, and Cecil Township, as well as microfilm of several local newspapers dating back to the late 1800s.
  • Electronic Services – We offer nine computers for patrons to use and free WiFi. Our patrons have access to multiple online resources, including Libby, hoopla, Universal Class, BookFLIX, TrueFLIX, ScienceFLIX, PA Department of Transportation Practice Tests (for cars, motorcycles, and CDL), and Ancestry.com. Our patrons also have access to POWER Library, the online state library, and PA Online Learning, an online collection of tutorials.
  • Adult Programs – The FSPL Book Club reads fiction and nonfiction selections, including New York Times bestsellers. This club meets every month. Our yearly programs include Bigfoot Crossing at FSPL, Summer Reading Raffle, and visits from many local authors. We have also partnered with organizations for educational programs and community service. One example is Allegheny Land Trust, which offers various environmental workshops and a yearly seed swap. We also partner with Vitalant, a nonprofit organization that collects blood from volunteer donors and provides blood products and services across the United States, to host several blood drives at our location. Our library also has volunteer opportunities for community-minded adults and teenagers.
  • Children's Programs – Our Children's Librarian, Jane McCullough, leads our children's programs. Our weekly children's offerings include Cuddle Babies (1-18 months), Toddler Tales (Ages 2-4), Wiggles & Giggles (Ages 2-5), Little Picassos (Ages 2-5), Jr. Engineers (Ages 2-5), and School Readiness StoryPlay (Ages 4-6). Our monthly children's programs include Lego Club (Ages 4+) and Read to a Therapy Dog (Ages 6+). Our yearly children's events include Midwinter Fest, Halloween Spooktacular walk-through, and Gingerbread House Contest.
  • Summer Reading Camp – Our Summer Reading Camp is tailored to each year’s Summer Reading Program theme. This year’s theme, “Adventure Begins at Your Library,” takes campers on an adventure through music, games, crafts, stories, and more. Our library offers four camp sessions, each lasting a week, to children who have completed Kindergarten through Grade 4. In our first session, campers will travel into space with “Blast-Off Adventure!” During the second session, they will explore the “Wonders of Wildlife Adventure.” Campers will be off into the skies for a “Winged Adventure” in the third session. Campers need to keep an eye out for dinosaurs in the fourth session’s “Dino Adventure.” Most exciting of all, our campers will enjoy special presentations from the Carnegie Science Center, Pittsburgh Zoo, National Aviary, and Carnegie Museum of Natural History.
