Mission

To provide a full continuum of care to homeless, near homeless, and low income individuals, children and families in Washington, Westmoreland, and Greene Counties.

Programs and Services

  • Connect, Inc., a 501 C-3, non-profit organization, has been providing housing and housing related supportive services to homeless, near homeless, and low income individuals, children, and families in Southwestern Pennsylvania since 1995. Connect, Inc. offers emergency shelter via the Washington Family Shelter as well as long term housing programs to households throughout Washington County. Connect, Inc. is proud to provide a continuum of homeless prevention and diversionary programing in addition to its client-focused, trauma informed housing case management services. Connect, Inc. is a trauma-informed agency that utilizes Housing First, Positive Youth Development, and Moving On which are evidence-based and industry recognized best practices.
  • Connect, Inc.'s Washington Family Shelter provides safe and secure emergency shelter accommodations for homeless families with children and single/unaccompanied women in Washington, Pennsylvania. The Washington Family Shelter is staffed 24 hours a day by staff who provide general supervision and support to guests throughout their shelter stay. The Washington Family Shelter is the only emergency shelter for families within Washington County that offers emergency shelter services to adult household members of all genders. This distinction allows families to remain intact and does not separate adult immediate household members from the family unit during their shelter stay. The Washington Family Shelter is pleased to offer emergency shelter services to parents, grandparents and other adult family members within the immediate household. The Washington Family Shelter does not discriminate against shelter guests utilizing Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) and is able to accommodate guests with behavioral health and substance abuse related conditions.
  • Guests utilizing the Washington Family Shelter work with Community Engagement Specialists who provide comprehensive, trauma-informed assessment and housing case management throughout the shelter stay. The Community Engagement Specialists assist shelter guests to identify and obtain housing for when they leave the shelter, and link guests with other community-based supports such as medical, behavioral health or substance abuse-related treatment services on an individualized basis. Additionally, shelter guests may receive assistance from staff to enroll their children in school and to apply for or transfer benefits when appropriate.
  • As an agency, Connect, Inc. strives to make an individual or family’s episode of homelessness a brief and non-recurring event in their lives. While at the Washington Family Shelter, in addition to working to secure a stable and long-term housing solution for each homeless household, shelter staff strive to assist them in obtaining and maintaining benefits, increasing their income, and linking them to any necessary community based services and supports.
