Charleroi Trustees Community Park
Category of Service: Community Improvement & Economic Development
Mission
The purpose of the trust is to hold and manage the real and personal property acquired by the Trustees for charitable, educational and recreational purposes in the form of a park or playground for the use or benefit of the public and especially the citizens of the Borough of Charleroi and vicinity and to prepare, beautify and embellish, keep up and maintain the same for said charitable, educational and recreational purposes.
Programs and Services
- Charleroi Trustees Community Park exists to not only hold and provide real property for use by the public for recreation, but to give children of the Mon Valley area of Washington County, centered in Charleroi, the opportunity to participate in both competitive and recreational sports, especially baseball.
- The Trustees have been associated with Pony Baseball for several decades. Youth 6 to 12 are able to participate in multiple levels of competitive baseball because this nonprofit is able to provide safe, quality ballfields and volunteer coaches to encourage children to engage in America's pastime.
- The facilities and groups that use the Trustees Park encourage families to seek recreational activity together. Instead of children needing to simply play and seek companionship individually in the street, they are able to gather in a safe environment, away from drugs, alcohol and other temptations. They can create friendships, develop physically, and express themselves in a manner that facilitates positive outcomes.
- Families frequent picnic areas within the Park, parents play catch or watch their children make friends on the playground, citizens can walk alone or with their dogs along the walking track, and teens and adults can play a friendly game of basketball. All of this encourages healthy, positive interaction and relief from the stressors in life, in a well-maintained park.
