CASA for Kids*
Category of Service: Human Needs
Mission
The organization trains community members to become Court Appointed Special Advocates who will speak up for the best interests of abused and neglected children in the courts of Washington County. CASA volunteers review records, research information and talk to everyone involved in a child's life and then present their recommendation to the court as to what they feel is in the best interest of the child.
Programs and Services
- CASA for Kids recruits, screens, trains and supports community members who come from all walks of life to serve as a Court Appointed Special Advocate for a child, young person or sibling group who has experienced abuse or neglect and who is involved in the Washington County Juvenile Court system through no fault of their own.
- A CASA volunteer speaks up for a child's best interests and provides recommendations to the court to ensure a child does not fall through the cracks of an overburdened child welfare system.
