Programs and Services
- The A.D. White Research Society Ltd., was established for historical preservation and genealogy of the Avella, PA, and Northern Washington County, Pennsylvania, area. In January 2024 a new Board of Directors was seated to: Ensure the preservation of the Society’s holdings; Resume significant membership activities; Secure new revenue sources for the near and distant future: and recruit new leadership.
- The A. D. White Research Society was founded in 1995 to preserve the work and archives of Mr. A. D.White, an outstanding educator, historian, genealogist and humanitarian who passed away in1994 at the age of 99. Mr. White spent his working life as an educator in the school systems of several Townships in Washington County. Our service area encompasses those townships as well as other School Districts.
- The Society owns the Avella Train Station which contains family records, pictures and notes from A. D. White and other local historians. It published a newsletter several times a year highlighting people and places that contributed to the life of the area.
- Programs have included a lecture series, tours of locations of special interest and an annual History Fair. We are working to resume those activities which were suspended during the recent pandemic. Planned events include an Open House held on Memorial Day, a History Fair in November in partnership with Meadowcroft Rockshelter and Historic Village, and future Open House events
